Just A Short Term Plan, 3 Day Diet

Written By Natalie Barbee

If you need to lose weight quickly for a big event, such as a wedding or class reunion, the 3 Day Diet may give you the results you want, but don't expect them to last.

Belittled by experts as a part of a yo-yo dieting trend and just another fad, this form of dieting has been around since 1985. It is a restricted plan of eating that is followed for three days, with normal eating resuming for four or five days after which it may be repeated.

A claim of losing up to 10 pounds while on this diet have been made by supporters of the plan. Although the weight loss is because so much fluid has been taken from your system and not fat loss, you may still lose actual weight in the process. Exercise is not actually required while in this program.

Limit in calories, food and quantity per meal you eat are placed by the diet.

Each morning for breakfast you are allowed coffee or tea with one or two packs of a calorie-free sweetener. On day one, you have a 1/2 grapefruit or 1/2 cup juice and a piece of toast and 1 tablespoon peanut butter; day two, 1 egg, 1/2 banana and one piece of toast; day three, 5 saltine crackers, one ounce of cheddar cheese and an apple.

Lunch the first day again includes tea or coffee with calorie-free sweetener along with 1/2 cup tuna and a piece of toast; the second day 1 cup cottage cheese or tuna and 8 saltine crackers; the third day have coffee or tea again with a boiled egg and a piece of toast.

Dinners, while stringent, are more promising and include meat, vegetables and ice cream. On the first day, you get 3 ounces of any lean meat, 1 cup green beans, 1 cup carrots, an apple and a cup of regular vanilla ice cream. On the second day, you can have two beef hot dogs, 1 cup broccoli or cabbage, 1/2 cup carrots, 1/2 banana and 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream. On the final day you eat one cup each of tuna, carrots, cauliflower and melon, along with 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream.

Four cups of water or calorie-free drinks are recommended by the diet although it is less than the recommended amount for good health.

Even if the 3 Day Diet helps you squeeze into your favorite outfit or lose a couple of pounds instantly, it is not a long term or healthy weight loss solution. Even if you get the weight loss you wanted, if your normal eating habits are overeating, you will just as quickly regain the lost weight, therefore, you shouldn't do this more than three days at a time.

This can be used, however, to jumpstart a healthier diet since an instant result can be good motivation. Just remember to begin eating again on day four and eat in moderation.
