So I read where Spirit Airlines wants to charge up to $45 for a passenger to check his luggage.
I also read where the traveling public wants the head of the CEO of Spirit on a silver platter.
I also read where some senator has figured out that this is his big opportunity and on behalf of his constituents and the rest of the traveling public of America will put an end to this greed and abuse and ride into battle wearing the colors of righteous indignation, truth, honor and the American Way.
Uh…………..excuse me!
Do the words: "Airline Deregulation Act of 1980" ring a bell for any of you out there in airtravelerland?
Remember that little piece of legislation that took the government out of the price of ticketing…..out of allocation of route awards…….and out of the formation of any jerk-water airline that could put together a few airplanes and hire any fat female that walked slowly past the front door?……in other words: OUT OF STICKING THEIR NOSES INTO AIRLINE’S BUSINESS?
The buzz words then were: FREE MARKETPLACE. The public would decide which airline got their business and which airline did not.
On the basis of THAT inarguable theory, about 6 world-class airlines went out of business to make way for the likes of Spirit, Peoples Express, Southwest, JetBlue etc. and their $50 roundtrip fares between Dallas and Ft. Worth (that’s a joke..save your venom)
So……now that the inevitable has come to pass (Mercy….WHO could have foreseen THAT?)
My Question:
What’s Your Gripe?
My only gripe at the moment is ridiculous rants like yours. For starters, you need to get your facts straight; it’s CARRY-ON baggage that is being charged for by Spirit Airlines, NOT checked baggage! Almost all airlines charge for checked baggage!
