I want to be able to play a pre recorded beat or harmony and make my own melody to add to it. Also, i would like to be able to play my own piano parts with a pre recorded beat (i don’t have drums so thats important), and I want to be able to add my voice to that. please let me know of ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING I will need, recommended items, and where to find them. Also, pricing. Thanks.
essentially you’re saying: do all the work for me, i’m lazy.
is that really the same as asking a question?

There is a Monster cord that is an instrument plug in on one end and a pc plug in on the other, that and a microphone and you should be set. The cord costs $23 and if you don’t have a mic i’ve seen them for $20

FIRST You’ll have to replace the soundcard in your computer. The one that’s in ther costs about $20 and it’s only meant for talking and those annoying computer sounds you hear. You wont really be able to do anything with one of those. Got to the yahoo search bare and type in this: CREATIVE SOUNDBLASTER PLATINUM PRO/BEST PRICE
It’s an older outdated model so you’ll get it cheaper (About $150-200) the newer models are about $1000 or more (but they’re worth it). The card has a separate box that sits on your computer table and you can plug in microphones, electric guitars, basses and keyboards. You can even plug in the old record player and record your parents old vinyl (Good argument point to use for your parents to help you buy it: they can use it too!) It has midi as well and you wont have to buy amps for any equipment, just plug straight in with an electric guitar and you’re on. Because it’s new when you buy it, it will have a 12 month warranty too. In the box there will also be a recording program, and that has all the effects youll need, like reverb and distortion and echo etc…so you wont have to buy all of those as well. When you have it up and running open the midi files and youll find you have prerecorded drums in there you can use on your tracks.
Next thing you’ll need is better speakers. Go to the creative website and get a set of 2.1 speakers, or Altec Lansing (I have Altec lansing) They’re about $200 as well.
To burn to CD all you’ll need is a CD burner. I’m guessing you already have that.
Have fun.
Cat.

For best quality, you’re gonna want to get a couple things:
*Computer if you don’t already have one. Any will work fine.
*High quality microphone. Go to RadioShack and ask for a high quality one.
*A 3.5 mm cable with 1/4 in adapter. This will connect your keyboard directly to your computer. 3.5mm cable plugs into the 1/4 adapter and the 1/4 in end plugs into your keyboard’s headphone/output jack. The smaller end goes into the microphone plug on your sound card.
*Audio recording software. You can buy good software for this, but there are workable free options available. Most people recommend Audacity, but that could be kinda complicated for some people. Windows Movie Maker’s narrator function will work just fine for some things.
I’d recommend first recording your song on the keyboard to your computer. Then, play back the song on your computer and record your singing while it’s playing. You can then use Movie maker to put both parts together.
EDIT: To burn, you can use any media software, such as Windows Media Player. Just insert a CD-R, and then add you song(s) to the burn list, and then burn it. If you have a LightScribe burner, you can also use LightScribe CDs to engrave a design if you like.
